But comedy is not Frank's only passion. In 1980, Frank founded the http://frankdelima.com/programs.html Frank De Lima Student Enrichment Program. This non-profit organization is devoted to helping Hawaii's students understand the importance of reading, studying, laughing, and family, and managing major emotional and physical life transitions. Since the program's inception, Frank's visits have increased to 350 schools statewide biennially. In recognition of his commitment to Hawaii's keiki (children), Frank has received numerous honors, including Governor Cayetano's Kilohana Award for Volunteer of the Year and the Ellison S. Onizuka Memorial Award from the National Education Association.

Frank De Lima, winner of 12 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and one of Hawaii's most popular comedians, will present "Laughing and Learning in Hawaii Today" at Kaimuki Public Library on Sunday, January 17 at 3 p.m. The free program will be conducted in the Adult Reading Room.

The "Portuguese Prince of Hawaiian Comedy" has been entertaining local residents and tourists alike for more than 30 years with his zany parodies, outrageous sense of humor, and spontaneous creativity. De Lima's specialty is translating issues - such as current events, fads, attitudes, and people - into musical parodies.

Besides comedy, De Lima is passionate about helping Hawaii's students understand the importance of education by reading, studying, and using public libraries. Through the Frank De Lima Student Enrichment Program, Frank also emphasizes the importance of laughing, family life, and the ability to manage major emotional and physical life transitions. Since 1980, De Lima's biennial visits have increased to 350 schools statewide.

The one-hour program is suitable for all ages. Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
