A Holiday Evening with a Singing Arkangel in HPR's Atherton Studio Dec 20

HPR presents Hawai‘i Island singer/songwriter Lito Arkangel in its intimate Atherton Studio on Saturday, December 20, at 7:30 p.m. Arkangel's program includes Hawaiian mele from his debut CD Me Ke Aloha, as well as Christmas songs and stories of his journey from a young "kolohe" (rascal) to musician, educator, US Navy veteran, husband and father. Arkangel is recognized for the beautiful falsetto he brings to classic/contemporary/traditional Hawaiian songs, as well as his personal connection to the cultural traditions which comprise his repertoire. His special ability to communicate history and values through music is often seen in his work with young people.

Tickets for Lito Arkangel's December 20th Atherton debut are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton regularly sells out and patrons are advised to reserve their tickets early. Reservations may be made at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawai‘i Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.

About the artist

Lito Arkangel was born and raised in the small plantation town of Kea‘au (Ola‘a), Hawai‘i Island and has worked his way from backyard "jam sessions" to being arguably one of Hawai‘i's best falsetto singers and entertainers. A US Navy Persian Gulf Veteran (USS O'Brien DD-975) and a University of Hawai‘i - Hilo graduate, Lito also lectures at UH Hilo in the Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikolani College of Hawaiian Language and the Department of Performing Arts.

About HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio

The Atherton Studio seats 75 people and is home to a magnificent Bösendorfer concert grand piano. The Studio is available for rent for musical performances, community group meetings, and lectures. It is located in the HPR office and studio complex at 738 Kaheka Street, across from the Honolulu Don Quijote. Metered street parking is available, as are paid lots at the First Hawaiian Bank (Kapi‘olani branch) and in the Pan Am building.
