From China's Central Conservatory of Music (中央音乐学院), the Artistic Exaltation Chamber Orchestra (艺境室内乐团) is an ensemble of musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments. "Artistic Exaltation" represents the highest artistic conception of Chinese traditional music. The artistic conception is usually rendered by the communion between scenic beauty and emotional reaction. Chinese traditional music ranks as the best those works that are significantly implicit, indifferent to worldly achievements, and that are without exaggeration and intentional description. Directed by John Mount, students in the Music Department's Opera Workshop class perform staged scenes from operas and operettas. This semester's performance includes scenes from La Cenerentola (Rossini's), Oklahoma (Rogers and Hammerstein), Pearl Fishers (Bizet), Cosi fan tutti (Mozart), Merry Wives of Windsor (Verdi), and The Old Maid and the Thief (Menotti).
