Chaminade's Hogan Entrepreneurs Will Honor Restaurateur Richard E. Tanaka with Lifetime Achievement Award on April 22

Chaminade University announced that its Hogan Entrepreneurs program will honor Richard E. Tanaka with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of its annual induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Mystical Rose Oratory, at Chaminade University.

Tanaka is a successful business and community leader who serves as Chairman, CEO, and sole shareholder of Tanaka of Tokyo Restaurants Ltd. Ranked among the top 250 companies in Hawaii, there are three restaurants in the islands employing over 170 people.

Self-supporting from an early age, Tanaka has worked as a gas station attendant, dishwasher, busboy, server, cook, road crew foreman, tractor & truck driver, and day laborer prior to and while attending NYU and the University of Western Ontario on academic scholarships. He graduated with an Honors B.A. (U.S. equivalent M.A.) and has served as a member of Chaminade's Hogan Entrepreneurs Advisory Board for close to 14 years as well as on Chaminade's senior advisory body, the Board of Governors, for over nine years and currently also serves as a member of the Nominating Committee of the Board of Regents.

Tanaka is involved with various non-profits, has studied martial arts (judo, aikido, Tokyu & Shotokan Karate) since an early age, and holds a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He is also an avid golfer.

Chaminade's Hogan Entrepreneurs Program Director, John Webster, Ph.D., said, "We are pleased to honor Rick for his achievements as well as for his service to the program. Rick's success in the business world can be attributed, in no small way, to his meticulous attention to customer satisfaction and creating a unique dining experience. This year, we are particularly pleased as Rick's daughter is one of our new students being inducted into the program."

Open to all majors and undergraduates as well as graduate students (not just business majors), Chaminade University's Hogan Entrepreneurs program recognizes that any graduate has the potential to start something new. The program's motto is: "Doing social things that make business sense and business things that make social sense."
