The UH University Chorus, the UH Concert Choir, and the UH Chamber Singers will present a concert including Leonard Bernstein's famed Chichester Psalms on the 50th anniversary of its premiere.
The concert also features works by Benjamin BRITTEN, Felix MENDELSSOHN, Felix MENDELSSOHN, Vahram SARGSYAN, C. V. STANFORD, Thomas TALLIS, Pyotr Ilyich TCHAIKOVSKY, and an arrangement by Alec SCHUMACKER.

Concert Advisory
Due to the high probability of rain, the UH Gamelan Ensemble concert has been relocated. The Balinese Gamelan Ensemble will begin the concert at the Music Department's Choral Rehearsal Room 36 (opened to the courtyard, with indoor audience seating). After intermission, the concert will continue in Orvis Auditorium with the Javanese Gamelan Ensemble. Start time is 7:30 p.m.
Presented in cooperation with the Hawaii Gamelan Society.

The UH Balinese Gamelan Ensemble will perform traditional Balinese music on two sets of instruments -- the larger gamelan gong kebyar ensemble (Gamelan Segara Madu), and a smaller gender wayang ensemble. The group will also perform new compositions by ensemble director Made Widana. These new works will be used in the January 2016 UH Asian Theater production of a contemporary Balinese dramatic performance accompanied by the UH Balinese Gamelan Ensemble.
The UH Javanese Gamelan ensemble, using Gamelan Kyai Gandrung, will perform repertoire in the styles of various parts of Central Java -- Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Semarang, and Madiun -- as well as Pak Hardja Susilo's arrangement of traditional and contemporary pieces originally used for a 1974 dance drama.

The program includes Japanese composer Somei Satoh's Birds in Warped Time II (for violin and piano) and works by two English composers: John Tavener's A Mini Song Cycle for Gina (for soprano and piano), and Colin Matthews' Three of a Kind. Also featured are works for unique duos: Elizabeth Brown's Acadia, for flute and shakuhachi, and Steven Mackey's Fusion Tune, for electric guitar and cello.

When these three outstanding musicians from the San Francisco Conservatory come together as a piano trio, magic happens! Violinist Wei He was described by legendary violinist Dame Camilla Wicks as "a genuine artist who has boundless imagination." He gives critically acclaimed recitals in Asia, Europe, and the United States, frequently with pianist Yoshikazu Nagai, an acclaimed soloist who plays in venues around the world from CarnegiÅÅe and Merkin Concert Halls in New York City to the Shanghai Concert Hall and National Recital Hall in Taiwan. Cellist Jean-Michel Fonteneau is a founding member of the Ravel String Quartet and winner of the first French Grammy Award, "Les Victoires de la Musique Classigue.
