"Impostor Fraud," occurs when a scammer poses as someone they're not in order to steal your money.
You get a call from someone who says they're from the IRS and you owe back taxes.But do you?A pop up on your computer warns your machine is infected and you need immediate technical support. You geta call, "Grandma, I need money for bail." But is it really your grandchild?
Learn how to sort fact from fiction and how to protect yourself and the people you care about.We'll also be celebrating the latest legislative successes that can help you protect your identity and care for your family.You'll see new video interviews with former con-men in India and Florida and get startling new information about "the dark net," how to protect yourself from identity thieves, and scams targeting veterans and older adults.
Coffee and scones will be served.

Doug Shadelis the state director for AARP Washington and previously served as a fraud investigator and special assistant to the attorney general for the Washington State Attorney General's Office.He is a nationally recognized expert on financial fraud, having co-directed numerous studies for AARP, the AARP Foundation, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, and Stanford University.He is the author of "Outsmarting the Scam Artists," and has co-authored several additional books includingScheme and Scams(with John T.),Outsmart Crime(with Al Ward), andWeapons of Fraud(with Anthony Pratkanis). In 2000, Shadel received the FBI Director's Award for his work fighting fraud. He has a Ph.D in social science and lives in Seattle with his wife, Renee, and children, Nick and Emily.
