Chaminade University Receives $100,000 from First Hawaiian Bank Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Kapono Ryan (808) 735-4797 or cell (808) 429-2972 View Profile First Hawaiian Bank Foundation HONOLULU--July 7, 2008--A $100,000 grant pledged by First Hawaiian Bank will assist Chaminade University with the expansion of its Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, providing students studying biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics and forensic sciences the opportunity to learn and conduct lab experiments in new state-of-the-art facilities. ![]() Photo Details Below The grant, which will be awarded over a four year period, will be used to upgrade and expand all laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices and other research support areas that serve Chaminade's Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The new facilities are part of a comprehensive $9 million, multi-phased project to renovate Henry Hall, one of the original buildings on Chaminade's campus. "This grant comes at a pivotal time for Chaminade, with the recent opening of our new library and the capping of our $61 million Transformations campaign," said Chaminade President, Sue Wesselkamper. "We are extremely grateful for First Hawaiian Bank Foundation's ongoing partnership and support for our university as we continue to expand our facilities and program offerings, particularly in the fields of science and mathematics." Chaminade's focus on its Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics was spurred on by the overall increase of students with declared majors in the division, which offers courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and forensic sciences. The university has one of the leading forensic sciences programs in the nation and is the only institution in the country offering both a bachelor's and master's degree in the field. Chaminade is also preparing to introduce a new Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing contingent upon appropriate approvals.
