Pool and neighboring gym reopened at Mānoa Valley District Park following renovations
Mānoa -- Both the pool and neighboring gymnasium at Mānoa Valley District Park are now open following a reroofing project that required the closure of both facilities.
The pool will be open to the public under the following schedule beginning Tuesday, September 19, 2017:
• Morning Lap Swim Monday - Friday 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Afternoon Lap & Free Swim Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Evening Lap Swim Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Weekend Lap & Free Swim Saturday & Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The reroofing repairs to the hexagon-shaped gym closest to the pool included replacing the decades old roof with a new, single-ply roofing system. This provides the facility with stronger and more durable weatherproofing. Other repairs were also made to the restroom facility shared by the gym and pool.
Because of its proximity to the park's swimming pool, the $1.17 million roof replacement project required the closure of both the gym and pool throughout construction. This began on February 13, 2017.
The gym facility located on the mauka-side of the renovated gymnasium remained open during construction.
Because of limited part-time lifeguard availability, the reopening of the Mānoa pool has impacted the staffing and schedule for the pool at McCully District Park. The current schedule at McCully is as follows:
• Morning Lap Swim Monday - Friday 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
• Lap & Free Swim Tuesday 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Thursday 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Weekend Lap & Free Swim Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Department of Parks and Recreation is encouraging those interested in part-time lifeguard positions to contact our pool facilities to learn more about these employment opportunities. A lifeguard class will be offered at Mānoa Valley District Park during the week of October 9, 2017. Please call the pool staff at (808) 988-6868 for more information. You can find a list of all Department of Parks and Recreation pools and their contact information by visiting parks.honolulu.gov and clicking "Pool Location."
