NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 91, the Hawaii State Department of Education will conduct a public hearing on December 13, 2010, commencing at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Kalani High School (4680 Kalanianaole Highway, Honolulu, HI 96821) on the following:

PROPOSED CONSOLIDATION OF SCHOOLS
A public hearing will be held to hear all persons interested in the report on the consolidation study of Kalani Complex Elementary Schools (Kahala Elementary, 4559 Kilauea Ave., Honolulu 96816; Liholiho Elementary, 3430 Maunaloa Ave., Honolulu 96816; Liliuokalani Elementary, 3633 Waialae Ave., Honolulu 96816; Waialae Elementary, 1045 19th Ave., Honolulu 96816; Waikiki Elementary, 3710 Leahi Ave., Honolulu 96815; and Wilson Elementary, 4945 Kilauea Ave., Honolulu 96816).

Copies of the consolidation study report may be picked up at no charge between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays) at Kahala Elementary, Liholiho Elementary, Liliuokalani Elementary, Waialae Elementary, Waikiki Elementary, and Wilson Elementary School offices and the DOE Honolulu District Office, 4967 Kilauea Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816. The consolidation study report is also available at http://doe.k12.hLus. A copy of the consolidation study report will be mailed for a $1.10 fee (payable in advance) to any interested person who submits a written request to the DOE Honolulu District Office or calls (808) 733-4952.

All interested persons will be afforded the opportunity to present testimony, orally or in writing, on the consolidation study report at the time of the public hearing. Persons wishing to submit written testimony are requested to submit one copy of their written testimony at the time of their presentation.

Public testimony may be submitted at the hearing, mailed to the DOE Honolulu District Office or emaiied to doe_info@notes.k12.hLus. Written and emailed testimonies must be received no later than three business days following the public hearing date. Interested persons may contact the Department of Education at (808) 733-4952 for related inquiries.

Following the public hearing, the DOE will submit a recommendation to the Hawaii State Board of Education on whether and when Liliuokalani Elementary School should be closed and whether and when the attendance areas of Waialae and/or Liholiho elementary schools should be adjusted to accommodate the Liliuokalani Elementary students.

• Please consider signing the online petition that will be submitted to the Board of Education (link on right menu).
  
• Please show your support of our school by downloading and filling-out the attached "Parent Letter Opposing Closure of QLS"
