The Hawaii Red Cross is offering their annual Summer Buddies program on Oahu. This nine-week water safety aide program for teens 13-17 years old allows them to improve their aquatic skills, get CPR certified, and learn leadership skills. The Summer Buddies will help Red Cross Water Safety Instructors teach keiki how to swim as part of the Red Cross free Summer Swim program, which will be held at Ala Moana Beach Park on the Magic Island side near the showers and lifeguard station 1E on Saturdays from 8:15-11:30 a.m. Session I: June 11 -- June 25; Session II: July 9 -- July 30.

• Making New Friends and 7 Saturdays of Fun!

The Summer Buddies will also participate in fun, water-related activities every week in addition to developing their leadership skills by assisting the instructors. A minimum fee of $30 is charged, and the program will provide teens with Adult CPR/First Aid training, a t-shirt, volunteer hours, and lots of fun. Registration may be done online at www.hawaiiredcross.org, or for more information call 739-8179. An orientation will be held on June 4 and the program will begin on June 11.

The Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian organization which provides assistance for immediate emergency needs of those affected by disasters. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency but depends on public contributions to help others.
