Hansel & Gretel Synopsis
Hansel and Gretel, the classic Brother's Grimm fairy tale, tells the story of a clever brother and sister and what their father and step-mother choose to do when their family falls on hard times. The family is so poor that the step-mother convinces her husband that it will be better off for everyone if the children are left in the woods. Hansel and Gretel, overhearing this plan, hatch a strategy of their own to return home, but eventually they are lost in the woods and they encounter an evil witch in a tempting gingerbread house. Can Hansel and Gretel escape the evil witch's clutches and return home again?
Our target audience is Preschool through 6th Grade. Parents & Teachers should be advised that while this is a children's show, there are dark themes.
Congratulations to our Hansel & Gretel Cast!
The Narrator - Andrew Asato, KHS/11th |
About The Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center Presents
Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center, better known as KHSPAC. One of the first public schools performing arts center in Hawaii. Over the years our program has grown and adapted to the times. With shows ranging from such theatrical classics as GODSPELL and The Sound of Music, to original musicals like Wassup Fables and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The talented students range from elementary school kids to the college kids looking to fine tune their skills. The Performing Arts Learning Center at Kaimuki is said to be the community theatre of the Public School.
Friends of KHSPAC
An organization composed of students, teachers, and parents who have a strong interest in all aspects of the performing arts. KHSPAC currently puts on three major productions per school year.
KHSPAC Mission
Our mission since 1987 has been to provide public school students with the opportunity to discover, learn, and develop their talents in a four-year curriculum of classes including acting, singing, dancing, and technical theater. We strongly believe that the performing arts help develop discipline, creativity, self-awareness, confidence, focus, and appreciation for the arts. By providing training and experience in the theatre, students grow and mature as individuals learning skills that can be applied to any career choice.
Accomplishments
KHSPAC has received the national honor of being invited to participate in the summer of 2010 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We hope to raise the funds needed to take our students to Edinburgh, Scotland - about $7,500 per student.
Friends of KHSPAC is driven to assist KHSPAC in surviving
With annual budget cuts to public schools, we believe the future survival of KHSPAC is at risk. Simply stated, we are now turning to our community for support to keep our program alive. To fulfill our mission, we are asking for monetary support. Presently we are raising funds for production costs and long-term goals not covered by our DOE budget allocation.
Under the coordination of Mrs. M.J. Matsushita, the KHSPAC teaching staff is comprised of a core group of educators with professional experience in all aspects of theater production.
While our performing arts students come mainly from Kaimuki High School (many have geographic exceptions specifically to join our learning center), our production auditions are open to any public school student. KHSPAC is the only public school performing arts learning center in the Honolulu area.
While any monetary donation is appreciated, the following examples illustrate some of our basic needs. Sponsorship is welcomed and will be recognized in our production programs.
A donation of:
$10 contributes to makeup
$25 provides a costume
$50 contributes to props
$100 provides sheet music
$500 contributes to set construction
$1,000 contributes to printing the program
$2,500 contributes to royalties
$20,000 covers the total cost to produce just one of our main stage musical theatre productions at KHSPAC
