Classical Violinist Patrick Galvin Plays HPR's Atherton Summer Concert Series June 22
The Summer Concert Series at HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio continues with classical violinist Patrick Galvin on Saturday, June 22.
Galvin will be playing some of his newest original works, accompanied by piano. This is Galvin's debut performance at the Atherton.
Galvin is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with renowned violinists Camilla Wicks and Wei He. Patrick also spent two years studying violin with Barbara Gorzynska at the Prayner Konservatorium in Vienna, Austria. He made his solo debut at age 11 with the Oakland East Bay Symphony playing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1. Galvin plays a 1778 Castello violin, a 1959 A.E. Smith violin, and a W.E Hill and Sons bow.
Reservations may be made online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $25 general, $20 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID; online service fees apply. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaiʻi Public Radio, 738 Kāheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.
About the artist
When he is not performing, Patrick Galvin teaches violin at a local school and out of his home in San Francisco. He has also written for the online journal The San Francisco Classical Voice. In 2014, Galvin earned a fellowship in the Rubin Institute for Music Criticism. During his time at the University of San Francisco, he was selected to be a Davies Scholar. Galvin is fiscally sponsored by InterMusic SF.

About HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio
The Atherton Studio seats 75 people and is home to a magnificent Bösendorfer concert grand piano. The Studio is available for rent for musical performances, community group meetings, and lectures. It is located in the HPR office and studio complex at 738 Kaheka Street, across from the Honolulu Don Quijote. Metered street parking is available, as are paid lots at the First Hawaiian Bank (Kapiolani branch) and in the Pan Am building.
