On September 4, Hawaii Symphony Musicians Iggy Jang (concertmaster) and Sung Chan Chang (Associate Principal cellist) join pianist Jonathan Korth in an evening of trios and classical music gems.

Grateful to be a part of the SCEP Fall Series, Ignace (Iggy) Jang serves as concertmaster of the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra. Recognized for his ability to forge personal connections with audiences throughout America, Asia and Europe, recent collaborators include pianists Jon Nakamatsu, Jonathan Korth, Thomas Yee, Jon Kimura Parker, Ralph Votapek, violinist Hilary Hahn, cellists Franz Helmerson, Sung Chan Chang and ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro.

Pianist Jonathan Korth enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer and professor, working with young musicians at the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 2008. In more normal times, he performs across Asia, the United States, and Europe, with recent concerts in Bangkok, Beijing, Chicago, Shanghai, Seoul, and Tokyo. Locally, you may have heard him presented by the Honolulu Chamber Music Series, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Hawaiʻi Concert Society, Chamber Music Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra, and faculty concerts at UH Manoa.
Dr. Korth’s enthusiasm for chamber music has led to recent collaborations with violinists Martin Beaver and Robert McDuffie, cellists Zuill Bailey and Sung-Won Yang, as well as many members of the HSO. Collaborations with Iggy and Sungchan over the last decade have been particularly enjoyable and entertaining, which should be clear with this trio concert. When not playing the piano, he enjoys hiking and fine dining, well-paired activities.

Sung Chan Chang, started playing the cello when he was 7 years old. He was accepted to the Seoul Ye-Won Art School with prestigious honors in 2001, and the Juilliard Pre-College as a scholarship student in 2002. He graduated from The Korean National University of Arts with the Bachelor of Music degree in 2008, The Juilliard School with the Master of Music degree in 2010, Yale University with the Artist Diploma degree in 2012,  Northwestern University with the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2020 and is currently serving as Associate Principal cellist at Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.
The fall concert series is a joint effort between the
UH Mānoa Outreach College, UH Mānoa Music Department, the East-West Center Arts Program, and Friends of Manoa Library.
