Enjoy playing the challenging game of chess every day during library hours (except Saturdays and state holidays) at Kaimuki Public Library! We have several chess sets and boards available for public use in the library on a first come, first serve basis.
All experience levels are welcome to play. Sorry, but no chess instruction will be provided. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please see an Adult Reference Desk staff member or contact the Adult Reference Desk at (808) 733-8422 for more information.

Hanafuda Game Time!

Come and play Hanafuda with your fellow community members! We have several hanafuda packs available during the program for those who wish to play, on a first come, first serve basis. Meet new friends, challenge yourself, and have fun! For those who learned how to play Hanafuda from Helen Nakano and her Sensei, now you can practice those skills in a game!
This will be a a self-directed play time, and no instructions will be given. Although we will have sheets of instructions for those who wish to learn more about this wonderful game. All experience levels are welcome to play! Please note that young children must be accompanied by an adult. Mak & Tea: Author/Illustrator Duo

Please help us in welcoming our Special Guests Mackenzie Joy and Tony Piedra, the Author/Illustrator duo known as Mak & Tea as they read Pau: The Last Song of the Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō, their latest book, and more! For this picture book, Mak & Tea consulted with Kauaʻi Forest Bird Recovery Project to create this wonderful book that honors the ʻŌʻō bird, Kauaʻi’s endemic bird species.
Did you know? The ʻŌʻō (oh-oh) got its name from the sound of their call. These magnificent vocal birds were last seen in 1985 and were sadly last heard in 1987.
We would like to mahalo (thank) the Friends of Kaimukī Public Library for funding the snacks for this program; they will be made available at the end of the program.

Sing Like Nobody’s Watching-Karaoke Night!

Grab your friends, throw on your best retro gear and come ready to belt out your favorite 80s and 90s tunes during this karaoke night! Attendees can join Kaimukī Public Library for a night of fun and food, as we sing and reminisce with songs from the 80s and 90s. Library will provide mics and sound system.
Please feel free to bring a favorite appetizer to share with other attendees. You don’t want to miss out on this epic night of fun!

About Kaimuki Library

The mission of the Hawaii State Public Library System is to provide Hawaii's residents, in all walks of life, and at each stage of their lives, with access to education, information, programs and services, and to teach and nurture the love of reading and the habit of life-long learning.

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.
