Join us as we create our own parol, pɑːˈroʊl, an icon of Filipino Christmas time. Parol which translates to lantern, is usually made in the shape of a star, remains an iconic Filipino symbol and has become just as important in the Philippines as the Christmas tree is to Western Cultures. Did you know that the parol symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, joy, and hope. A reminder of family and home, especially for those away from home.
All supplies will be provided free of charge. Due to the limited supplies though, we are restricting the amount of attendees for this program to 15 people. Registration is required and will be based on a first come-first served basis. To register, please stop by the reference desk, or call the library at: (808)733-8422. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Mahalo nui to our Friends of Kaimukī Public library for funding this program!

Ulana Lauhala: Ornaments for the Holidays!
December 15, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Categories: Arts & Crafts, Community, Culture, Holiday Season, Learning
Contact: 808-733-8422
Come spread joy one holiday ornament at a time as we create our own lauhala holiday ornaments with Keanahala. This special workshop would be a great opportunity for those interested in learning the art of traditional lauhala weaving, ulana lauhala.
Keanahala is a community weaving program of Puʻuhonua Society that perpetuates the native Hawaiian practice of ulana lauhala, pandanus weaving; focusing on weaving as well as learning about and participating in the entire process including harvesting, prepping, and weaving.
Due to the limited supplies we are restricting the amount of attendees for this program to 15 people. Registration is required and will be based on a first come-first serve basis. To register, please stop by the reference desk, or call the library at: (808)733-8422.
