Your Library Card: The Smartest Card in Your Wallet
As you prepare your child or yourself to go back-to-school, did you know the smartest card in your wallet is a valid Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) library card?
Your HSPLS library card is the key that provides a wealth of free services to help you or your child succeed in school including the HI Tech Academy, online databases provided by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services) including Powerspeak Languages, Testing and Education Reference Center, and homework assignment resources for elementary, middle school, and high school students; wireless internet access (wi-fi), Reference and Readers Advisory assistance, and more.
Your valid photo ID and proof of current local address are required to obtain a Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) library card from a local public library. The initial card for Hawaii residents and stationed military personnel is free. For non-resident cards, temporary address and proof of permanent address are required. Notify your local public library immediately if your card is lost, stolen, or have a change of address or phone number.
Minors (below 18) must have their applications co-signed by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must present a current ID and proof of mailing address. Parents or guardians are responsible for items, fines, and fees on their children's cards.
