Hawaiian Electric Employees Volunteeres Decorate The Kaimuki Playground (On Waialae Avenue Between 10th And 11th Avenues)
Hawaiian Electric employees volunteered their time, equipment and manpower to help decorate the Kaimuki playground (on Waialae Avenue between 10th and 11th avenues) with Christmas decorations just before the upcoming community parade. Kaimuki resident and entertainer Jake Shimabukuro also stopped by to say
hello.
About Kaimuki Christmast Parade and Tree Lighting
The Kaimuki Business & Professional Association annual Kaimuki Christmas parade is held ever December along Waialae Avenue from Saint Louis School/Chaminade University to Koko Head Avenue. The parade has been held over 67 years. Over 50 groups will be marching the 1.1 mile length of the parade.
The parade features local elementary and high schools, businesses, several bands, girl and boy scouts, local healthcare facilities, our legislators and council representatives, the Fire Department, motorcycle groups, dogs, clowns, and, of course, Santa! Please be aware of the traffic congestion that will result as the parade marches up Waialae Avenue. This is a Kaimuki event that many look forward to every year.
The event will also mark the official lighting of the Kaimuki Christmas tree on top Pu'u O Kaimuki (also known as Menehune Hill.) Each year, KBPA provides the lights and decorations for the Christmas Tree and Kaimuki Community Park. The Kaimuki Community Park organizes volunteers from the Hawaiian Electric Company to string the lights.
Special appearance by Santa Claus.
Approximately 40 Kaimuki businesses, schools bands, and community groups participate.
VIP seating located at the front entrance area of the Kaimuki Plaza (10th Avenue and Waialae) is available to major sponsor donors of $250 or more. In addition to receiving 4 tickets to a private elevated viewing area to watch the parade, donors will receive validated parking, light pupus, and refreshments. VIP section seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Fill out form on right to request vip seating
Traffic Advisory: Two Diamond Head bound lanes on the makai side of Waiale Avenue will be closed and traffic will be contra-flowed on the remaining mauka lanes from 3rd Avenue to Koko Head Avenue. Motorists should expect traffic delays along Waialae Avenue and side streets for the hour plus duration of the parade.
About KBPA: The Kaimuki Business & Professional Association was formed in 1946 to address the needs of Kaimuki's business community. KBPA sponsors a number of annual events that bring together businesses, professionals, and the community including the Kaimuki Christmas Parade (one of the oldest in the state), the Halloween Costume contest, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the KBPA Academic Scholarship.
