About Mei Li, L.Ac., Dipl. Ac., Dipl. C.H.
Mei has been practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 2003. She received extensive academic and clinical training in the US and China. She received her Master's in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (New York), and completed a 3-year traditional apprenticeship in Beijing with Dr. Wang Ju-yi, a world-renowned practitioner of classical Chinese medicine and author of the acclaimed Applied Channel Theory in Chinese Medicine. Mei has practiced Chinese medicine in New York City as well as three cities in China, and has taught Chinese medicine alongside Dr. Wang Ju-yi in Beijing and Dublin (Ireland). She recently taught an acupuncture course in Latin America in June 2013.
Mei Li practices a unique style of acupuncture based on channel palpation, as taught by Dr. Wang Ju-yi. Diagnosis by channel palpation reveals the channels directly associated with pathology so that treatment generally involves fewer needles and yields a more powerful therapeutic effect.
In addition to her master's degree, Mei Li is board certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), a national board that holds its diplomates to the highest standards of professional training and continuing education in the field of Chinese medicine.
While attending Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, Mei completed an internship at St. John's Riverside Hospital in New York, where she used acupuncture to help patients recover from addiction and symptoms of substance withdrawal in a court-mandated inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification program.
In addition to her Chinese medical background, Mei has been practicing qi gong (Chinese breath cultivation) since 1992. She teaches qi gong to patients, when needed, as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Mei Li was also a Chinese-English medical interpreter as well an author, translator and editor of Chinese medical literature:
- When Acupuncture Does Not Work, Acutake
- The Clinical Significance of Palpable Channel Changes, Journal of Chinese Medicine
- Cycles of Qi: Practical Application of Stem-Branch Acupuncture
- The Clinical Practice of Chinese Medicine: Diabetes & Obesity
- The Clinical Practice of Chinese Medicine: Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and Miscarriage
- The Clinical Practice of Chinese Medicine: Gout & Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Clinical Reasoning in Chinese Medicine
