Kanu Hawaii Partners With Hawaii Red Cross To Get Communities Ready For Hurricane Season
- Tweet
HONOLULU, HI (May 27, 2011) –Hurricane
season runs from June 1 to November 30, and Kanu Hawaii is partnering with the
Hawaii Red Cross to ensure that families, neighborhoods and communities are
ready for emergencies and disasters of all types.
Kanu Hawaii will be holding several free “Get
Ready” workshops at public libraries in June and July 2011. This workshop
covers key information specific to Hawaii residents, when and where to evacuate,
and clears up the difference between hurricane and tsunami shelters.
Participants will learn about a “go bag” if home evacuation is
needed and a “stay home” kit if the safest place is off the roads
and in your house. If disaster strikes, people will need to reach or find family
members. Learn how to make an emergency plan that will make sure everyone is
safe. Find the best resources available from the city & county, the state,
and the federal government as well as how to stay informed when there is a
hurricane or tsunami watch. Kanu Hawaii will also talk about how best to help
your neighbors and what are some next steps to take in making your entire
neighborhood more prepared.
The first scheduled workshops are
Thursday, June 23 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at Salt
Lake Library (3225 Salt Lake Blvd)
Saturday, June 25 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Kapolei Library (1020 Manawai St) Tuesday, July 19 from 6:30 p.m. –7:30 p.m. at Kahuku Library (56-490 Kamehameha Hwy)
