SECOH Celebrates Balloons Around the World Day at Pearlridge Center

HONOLULU-- Balloons Around the World Day was established twelve years ago to highlight the act of giving, to deliver smiles, and to showcase the art of balloon twisting and decorating. In celebration of Balloons Around the World Day on Wednesday, October 5, the Special Education Center of Hawaii (SECOH) customers and staff will host two Storytelling Hours at Pearlridge Center. Sock puppets and balloon art will be used to illustrate the stories. In the spirit of the celebration, all the sculpted balloon art used to illustrate the stories will be given away to participants and shoppers to brighten their day.

The SECOH storytellers and balloon artists will be located in the downtown section of Pearlridge Center, between Cookie Corner and Seattle's Best Coffee stores. Stories and balloon sculpting will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Sandee Yoro, SECOH executive director, said, "SECOH's customers often appreciate having opportunities to contribute to their communities through volunteer activities. Their regular and ongoing volunteer activities include entertaining preschool children with puppet shows, storytelling and performing grounds keeping at a local historical sight."

SECOH is a private not for profit organization that provides a wide range of personalized services for people with disabilities of all ages in the spirit of enriching lives. Services are designed to sustain people with disabilities in their homes to avoid institutionalization in long term care facilities such as nursing homes. Day Services for people with disabilities are offered in six Oahu locations: Ewa Beach, Wahiawa, Waipahu, Pearl City, Kalihi and Kahala. Adult Day Care for elderly individuals is available in the Kahala and Wahiawa centers. Other support services include Respite, Personal Assistance/ Habilitation and Skilled Nursing.
