IRS Forms and Publications available at Selected Public Libraries
The Internal Revenue Service will not be sending out printed tax forms this year. They are encouraging e-filing or picking up the forms at a public library. The Hawaii State Library Federal Documents Section participates in the Tax Forms Outlet Program (TFOP) distribution of Federal income tax forms. The following is a list of other public libraries where you can find Federal income tax forms and booklets:
Public libraries statewide will serve as distribution outlets for Hawaii State tax forms, courtesy of a continuing partnership between the Hawaii State Public Library System and the State Department of Taxation.
Library staff will supply the forms, but are not trained to assist with tax questions. For assistance, call the Department of Taxation's Tax Information Line: 587-4242 on Oahu; from Neighbor Islands, call toll-free at 1-800-222-3229. For the hearing impaired: call 587-1418 on Oahu; from Neighbor Islands, call toll-free at 1-800-887-8974. Telephone lines will be open Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., except on State holidays. Visit www.state.hi.us/tax for more information.
The Hawaii State Library Federal Documents Section has the following resources to help you in preparing your tax returns:
- Ten years and more of reproducible Internal Revenue forms and instructions
- Internal Revenue publications on specific tax topics for business and individual filers
- Current Internal Revenue Code
- Current Internal Revenue regulations
- Internal Revenue Bulletin for IRS rules and procedures from 1975 to present
- CCH Federal Tax Guide for a detailed explanation of the current federal tax laws (up to 2010). Due to lack of funding, the CCH Federal Tax Guide is not being renewed next year.
- Public Internet access to the IRS website
The library staff is not authorized to give tax advice or to answer tax questions. For tax assistance contact the Honolulu Internal Revenue Office.
Consumer Alert
The IRS cautions taxpayers to be alert for e-mails and telephone calls from someone claiming to be from the IRS or another federal agency talking about tax refunds and stimulus payments. They will most likely be scams to obtain personal information to commit identity theft. The IRS does not send e-mails about taxpayers' accounts.
