* POKE
An island staple since the early Hawaiians arrived here over 1600 years ago. Poke is usually made with ‘ahi (yellowfin tuna) cut into small cubes. The ‘ahi cubes are typically marinated with a shoyu (soy sauce), inamona (roasted crushed canlenut), sesame oil and limu (seaweed). Here at Times, we offer a wide range of ‘ono (delicious) poke to choose from. Other varieties include ingredients like tako (octopus), crab, shrimp and mussels. Be sure to try our newest variety -- Pipikaula Poke. ‘Pipi' means cow and ‘Kaula' means dry in Hawaiian... dried beef! But don't let the name confuse you, it's juicy and full of flavor! Poke is best enjoyed with with cold beer and good company!

* BENTO
The history of the ‘Bento' or packed lunch, stems back as far as the fifth century. The Japanese would use portable food containers to carry with them as they worked in the fields, hunted or as they traveled. These portable food containers typically included white rice, white rice with millet or potatoes. In the mid- 1800 s immigrants from various countries which included Portugal, Philippines, China, Korea and Japan, arrived to the shores of Hawaii to work on the sugar, pineapple and other various agricultural plantations. During lunch time, plantation workers would share their food with one another, enjoying the flavors from distant lands right here in one place, Hawaii, ‘the Melting Pot of the Pacific!' Today, you can find many different variations of this local favorite right here at Times Supermarkets: Teriyaki Chicken Bento, Teriyaki Beef Bento, Fresh Salmon Bento, Fried Chicken Bento, Breakfast Bento... the list goes on and on. * PLATE LUNCH
The plate lunch is an evolution of the ‘Bento.' When the plantation era ended in the early 1900 s, the ‘Bento' style food pairings of rice and meats survived with the help of new emerging local businesses: lunch wagons, diners and drive-ins.
