Below is recent news from Art Explorium
Our mission is to provide a community art studio to nurture the creative potential in children.
Art Explorium is Moving on UP!
Did you know that in addition to our studio space downstairs, Art Explorium has a space upstairs in the same building? We are super excited to announce that we just started offering art workshops upstairs! We've been working hard to get the space organized, cute-ified, and ready for your keiki and you. Artists will teach workshops upstairs on a variety of art topics, and details will be posted on our web site. We just started with sewing classes by the very talented Uakea Egami of Me+U (see below for these workshop details). Stay tuned for details on more upcoming workshops upstairs.
Sewing Lessons with ME+U
As mentioned above we are working with Uakea Egami of ME+U to offer some really cool sewing workshops at Art Explorium in our new upstairs space. ME+U offers sewing lessons for the life-long learner to engage their creativity through sewing. Sign up and try your hand at beginner through intermediate projects that will teach you sewing vocabulary, skills, and techniques.
Registration is now open for sewing workshops, which started this week. Sewing lessons are on Wednesdays and Fridays. There are options for just about every age: kids ages 6 & up, high school students, and even adults! Sign up today and get your sewing on!
Leave Your Mark on our Marine Debris Art Project!
Stop by during Open Studio between now and February 11 to participate in an exciting community art project. We are working with guest artist Nicole Chatterson to create mosaics with plastic found on our beaches. Learn more about the issue of marine debris while contributing to these community art pieces. We worked on a very cool octopus last week, and now we will create the Hawaiian Island Chain from marine debris. When the mosaics are complete they will be proudly displayed in the new Hawaii Kai offices of the Hawaii Fish Trust.
Fairytales, Bollywood, & Super-Heroes: Workshops for Our Littlest Friends
With cool topics like these, it's pretty hard to resist these upcoming Little Artists Workshops, isn't it? Little Artists is a new program of workshops offered on the second and fourth Friday mornings of the month. These classes are designed especially for our youngest friends who are not in school yet, and homeschool keiki. We have been working with awesome instructor Harmony from HarmsaStar to develop this program and we are really excited about it! Harmony blends together movement, theater, and art all in one to provide a great experience for your own little artist.
Guest Artist Aunty Lani Coming Soon!
Our favorite reuse artist Aunty Lani will be here during Open Studio on Wednesday, February 12 from 2-4 pm with an adorable Valentine's Day art activity. She will teach keiki how to make a cute heart-shaped box out of reused materials. She will also share her own homemade rose petal potpourri to keep in your heart box! Regular $5 Open Studio rate, no pre-registration required.
From musical instruments to puppet theatre, Japanese enameling to yoga, solar system art to making beads and jewelry out of magazines, there really is something for every young artist at Art Explorium!
Updates
* Open Studio on Tuesday, February 18 from 2-5 pm is CANCELLED due to family reasons. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
* Guest Artist Aunty Lani was originally scheduled to be here this Wednesday, February 12 but she is not feeling well this week. So she will be here NEXT week Wednesday, February 19 from 2-4 pm to help us make adorable heart-shaped boxes and fill them with her home-made rose-petal potpourri.

Description
Nurturing tomorrow's creative thinkers
Art Explorium provides a fun, safe place where children of all ages have the opportunity and the permission to create freely. We firmly believe that art experiences are an important part of every person's growth and development. So... WE provide the space and materials, YOU provide the ideas and make them happen!
Art Explorium strives to be an eco-friendly organization. Many of the art materials in our studio are items that would normally be thrown in the landfill (old pieces of fabric, used bottle caps, small boxes, magazines, ribbon, etc.). We collect these used materials from our friends and local businesses, and Art Explorium visitors give these items a new life as art.
We offer art classes, birthday parties, and field trips to our studio. We also offer Open Studio time - come on in with your family and dabble in one or all of our art stations which offer activities like painting, sculpting, drawing, making mosaics and more. See you there!
General Information
Come on by! During Open Studio time you are free to drop in, use our space and materials and explore the process of creating.
We also offer art classes, birthday parties and field trips to our studio!
