Friday is Kaimuki Third Friday
Dot Day at Third Fridays Kaimuki! On Friday, September 19 from 5:00-8:00 pm we will be going crazy for dots! Help us make some chalk dots on our sidewalk, play a little game of Twister, and listen to the awesome story of The Dot, which inspired International Dot Day.
We will offer Open Studio hours from 5-8pm for a monthly celebration of our Kaimuki community.
Support Art Programs for Hawai`i's Keiki
Art Explorium is participating in Foodland's Give Aloha campaign! From September 1-30 donations to Art Explorium will be accepted at all Foodland, Sack N Save, and Foodland Farms stores statewide. The best part is that a portion of your donation will be matched! You must use your Maikaʻi card to make a donation and can donate up to $249 to support our keiki art programs. Our organization number is 78706. Mahalo for your support!
Learn Why Art is Good for Kids (and Adults)!
In the scramble of our daily lives we often forget the importance of art for kids and their development. In fact, here's a great article from PBS that shares how art helps children with motor skills, language development, academic performance and more. There's no better time than today to get your child involved in more art, and Art Explorium can help.
September Keiki Art Workshops at Art Explorium
September Workshop Lineup
Workshops are a great way for your child to learn an art skill, meet some other children, and have a fun and creative experience. Here's more information on September workshops:
- Looking for some After School Art? It's not too late to sign up for our September after school art classes, which will focus on Fiber Arts. Try Pulp Painting, Indigo & Shibori Dying, Weaving & Faux Stained Glass. Workshops are for ages 7 & up and are held on Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 pm in our upstairs studio. $50 for the series or $15 per class.
- How about a little Sunday Afternoon Art? We have workshops coming up on a wide variety of topics including several painting classes, cartooning, and Japanese enameling. Workshops are on Sundays from 1:00-2:30 pm and most are open to children ages 5 & up. $15 for most workshops.
- Our Little Artists Workshops are now on Tuesday mornings instead of Friday mornings. These classes are for our youngest artist friends ages 2-5. Instructor Harmony from HarmsaStar always comes up with the best themes! Upcoming classes are Dino Dancing (9/9) and Sand Play(9/23). 9:30-10:30 am, $15. Starting in October they will be held every Tuesday!
- Our Sewing Workshops with ME+U Hawaii are gaining momentum for the Fall! Check out our September sewing schedule here. Classes are on Wednesdays and Fridays and are open to ages 6 all the way to adults!
Let's Celebrate International Dot Day!
September is going to be FUN! Why? Because this month we celebrate International Dot Day, an annual event that promotes creativity, courage and collaboration. So put on your favorite polka dot attire and stop by! $5 Open Studio rate, no pre-registration required for any of the following events!
Guest Artist Aunty Lani will be here on Wednesday, September 10 from 2:00-4:00 pm during Open Studio. In celebration of Dot Day we will paint dots using a wet on wet watercolor painting technique. Children will also make a popsicle stick easel to display their finished project.
Story Time on Thursday, September 18 from 10:30 to 11:00 am. We will have a special Story Time and extra fun dot stamping with fruits and veggies!

Art Explorium provides a fun, safe place where children of all ages have the opportunity and the permission to create freely. We firmly believe that art experiences are an important part of every person's growth and development. So... WE provide the space and materials, YOU provide the ideas and make them happen!
Art Explorium strives to be an eco-friendly organization. Many of the art materials in our studio are items that would normally be thrown in the landfill (old pieces of fabric, used bottle caps, small boxes, magazines, ribbon, etc.). We collect these used materials from our friends and local businesses, and Art Explorium visitors give these items a new life as art.
We offer art classes, birthday parties, and field trips to our studio. We also offer Open Studio time - come on in with your family and dabble in one or all of our art stations which offer activities like painting, sculpting, drawing, making mosaics and more. See you there!

Come on by! During Open Studio time you are free to drop in, use our space and materials and explore the process of creating.
We also offer art classes, birthday parties and field trips to our studio!
