HPR News Awarded Two National Edward R. Murrow Awards

Hawaii Public Radio's newsroom was recognized today by RTDNA (Radio Television Digital News Association) with two 2015 National Edward R. Murrow Awards. The awards were in the Breaking News category for the "Pāhoa Lava Flow Series" and in Writing for "Searching for Family Roots in Pāhoa." Both were reported by HPR General Assignment Reporter Molly Solomon.

The Murrow Awards recognize outstanding work produced by radio, television, and online news organizations around the world. HPR's entries were among the more than 4,200 received by RTDNA in the 2015 awards season, and among the 104 selected for national award in 13 categories including Feature Reporting, Hard News, Overall Excellence, and more.

HPR President and General Manager Michael Titterton said "We are immensely proud of this recognition of our news team and the kind of quality journalism we produce for and about Hawaiʻi every day. That Molly was able to spend time in Pāhoa during a critical time for that Hawaiʻi island community was only possible because of the financial support we receive from our membership, so in part this award goes to them, too."
