2018 Summer Reading Program Winner Announced
Aiea 2nd Grader Wins Four Alaska Airlines® Airline Tickets
AIEA -- The Hawaii State Public Library System is thrilled to announce the grand prize winner of its 2018 Summer Reading Program Grand Prize Drawing: Kāʻeoapuleloa Acopan, a 7-year old reader from our Aiea Public Library! As the grand prize winner, Kāʻeo won four Alaska Airlines® roundtrip tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines® flies.
Collectively, thousands of readers statewide read 15.3 million minutes between June 2 to July 14, making them eligible for the grand prize drawing. 51 Public libraries across the state hosted entertaining family-friendly activities to encourage readers of all ages to join the 2018 "Libraries Rock!" music-themed programs, funded by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and their Summer Reading sponsors.
At today's presentation, State Librarian Stacey A. Aldrich, along with Nainoa Mau, Executive Director of the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, and Daniel Chun, Director of Sales, Community & Public Relations for Hawai‘i Alaska Airlines®, Kāʻeo and his parents James and Michelle Acopan -- were presented with a huge Alaska Airlines® boarding pass. The excited 2nd grade Pearl City Highlands Elementary School student shared that Disney World and visiting relatives in Alaska were among his top vacation dreams.
"Congratulations to Kāʻeo and his family! We are so grateful to the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and Alaska Airlines® for their support, and providing such an awesome grand prize to celebrate our summer of reading!" said State Librarian Stacey A. Aldrich.
"We are delighted for the Acopan family and extend a sincere Mahalo to Alaska Airlines® for their generous support of reading among Hawaii's keiki, teens, adults and kupuna through our public libraries," said Nainoa Mau, Executive Director of the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i.
