Hawaii State Library to Lend Out ‘Ukulele Beginning July 18th

The Hawaii State Library is launching a new lending collection of ‘ukulele beginning July 18th. Library patrons may borrow ‘ukulele for a three-week period at no cost with a valid library card. The ‘ukulele instruments are provided and supported by the Music For Life Foundation and Jake Shimabukuro, co-director of the ‘ukulele sponsorship. The goal of this program is to make ‘ukulele and ‘ukulele-playing opportunities accessible for all by allowing them to be checked out as easily as books are at your local public library.

The Hawaii State Library is the fourth library to launch the ‘Ukulele Lending Program, with special collections started at Nanakuli, Waimanalo and Aina Haina Public Libraries earlier this year. "We are excited that our patrons love this new service" said State Librarian Stacey A. Aldrich. "We greatly appreciate this awesome partnership with the Music For Life Foundation who are generously sharing their talents and making these ‘ukulele accessible to everyone."

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.
