Goodwill Kaimuki Store And Donation Center Temporarily Closing March 22, 2021
Set to return as the anchor tenant once construction is complete

Goodwill Hawaii announced today that its Kaimuki Store and Donation Center located at 3638 Waialae Avenue is closing and will be running a clearance sale of its remaining merchandise through Monday, March 22, the last day for the public to shop and donate at that location. Afterwards, the community can continue to drop off donations of clothing and household goods at its Kahala Mall Attended Donation Center or shop for thrift bargains online at ShopGoodwill.com/Hawaii or any one of its other Oahu stores.

“Our Kaimuki Store and Donation Center has been one of our top producing locations for nearly 20 years thanks to the love and support from the community,” said Katy Chen, Goodwill Hawaii president & CEO. “We are grateful for the opportunity to return as the anchor tenant on the ground level of the new building and look forward to announcing our reopening date in the near future.”

The new store and donation center will feature many upgrades designed for the comfort, safety and overall experience of Goodwill shoppers, donors and the surrounding community including an off-street donation drop-off area.

Goodwill Hawaii currently operates seven other retail stores on Oahu, including a newly renovated flagship store on Beretania Street which has been partially open since October 2020 as part of ongoing construction of the Honolulu Career & Learning Center. Once complete, the Beretania Store will nearly double in size and will also include a drive-through donation drop-off center. Revenue generated in Goodwill stores supports the nonprofit’s mission and programs statewide that provide critical education, employment training and placement services for more than 11,000 people each year.

About Goodwill
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation that helps people with employment barriers to reach their full potential and become self-sufficient.

Since 1959, we have provided job placement, career development, education, training, employment and support services for people throughout the state. Over 10,000 Hawaii residents each year have benefitted from Goodwill's services, and thousands have found employment in our community.

Philosophy
For more than 100 years, Goodwill Industries has championed a philosophy of community service through the power of work. In 1902, the founder of this philosophy, Reverend Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist Minister, took burlap bags into Boston's wealthier neighborhoods collecting donations. He invited community residents with disabilities and other disadvantages to help repair and sell the donations and used the revenue made through the sales to pay the workers. This philosophy is evident throughout Hawaii's Goodwill, and in Goodwills throughout the world.

Goodwill Industries International
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii (GIH) is an autonomous, dues-paying member of Goodwill Industries International, a growing network of Goodwill organizations throughout the world. There are currently 183 full member Goodwill organizations in the United States and Canada. Since the organization's founding in 1902, Goodwill has helped more than 9 million people. Globally, Goodwill Industries International announced its 21st Century Initiative to serve 20 million people by the year 2020.

Goodwill Leadership and Accreditation
Goodwill is led by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of civic and business leaders from the community. Goodwill has been fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for more than 30 years, and is certified by NISH. Goodwill maintains active membership in the National Rehabilitation Association, Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations, Retail Merchants of Hawaii, Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Aloha United Way, Hawaii Employers Council, West Oahu Economic Development Association, and the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce.

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii is funded through:
  • Retail sales at our community stores
  • Service contracts (in competition with private enterprise)
  • City, state and federal job training grants
