Parking lot repaving project begins next week at Hālawa District Park
Project will be conducted in phases, scheduled to be completely finished by end of 2022
O‘AHU -- A phased project to repave the two parking lots at Hālawa District Park is scheduled to begin next week, with the other park facilities remaining available to the public during the work.
In an effort to minimize impact to public usage of the park during the project, the project will be conducted in phases. Work at the upper lot, near the outdoor courts off Apela St., will begin next week and is expected to be finished in one month. The larger, lower lot, near the gymnasium off of ‘Iwa‘iwa St., will begin shortly thereafter and is also expected to take about one month to complete. Only one lot will be closed at a given time throughout the project, and all other park facilities (courts, playground, gymnasium, bathrooms) will operate on their regular schedule.
Repaving of the lots includes removing the existing asphalt before replacing the pavement, curbs, striping and other features. The entire repaving effort is expected to be finished before the end of 2022, weather permitting.
The $471,800 construction contract for the project was awarded to Peterson Bros. Construction, Inc.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the park users and surrounding community while this repaving project impacts their park.
Since September 2021, DPR has contracted over $2.5 million in repaving efforts at 15 park and garden locations across O‘ahu. Those also include:
- Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden's walkways
- Pūpūkea Beach Park (Shark's Cove)
