Talk Story Fest Oct. 13, Craft & Country Fair Nov. 18

O‘AHU -- Hawaiian storytelling traditions, and early holiday shopping for a good cause are in-store for you as part of the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation's (DPR) outstanding lineup of special fall events!

35th Annual Talk Story Festival

Spectators of all ages are invited to an evening of storytelling as our annual Talk Story Festival celebrates its 35^th year on Friday the 13^th!

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, the Mission Memorial Auditorium near Honolulu Hale will host a frighteningly good array of storytellers, sharing a variety of tales with spooky and historical undertones.

As Hawai‘i's oldest and largest storytelling celebration, this festival aims to perpetuate the Native Hawaiian tradition of passing knowledge through storytelling. In its 35 years of existence, the festival has been presented in many locations and adapted to the times, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the storytelling sessions from the 32^nd and 33^rd Annual Talk Story Festivals remain available to everyone around the world through our DPR social media platforms. 47th Annual Mayor's Craft & Country Fair

Looking for some amazing craft goods this holiday season, with funds supporting your local park Senior Clubs? Mayor Rick Blangiardi and DPR are proud to announce the return of the Mayor's Craft & Country Fair to the Neal S. Blaisdell Center's Exhibition Hall on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Celebrating its 47^th year, participants can get an early start on their holiday shopping with a wide variety of crafts, jams, jellies, baked goodies, hand-sewn accessories, pottery, fresh flowers and arrangements available for purchase. Most of the goods are crafted or sold by members of our vibrant DPR Senior Clubs, with proceeds from those sales going towards their kūpuna programming. There will also be a People's Open Market on-site offering discounted produce, a cookies & party mix contest, and classic cars on display!

Bring a canned good to donate to the Hawai‘i Food Bank to support a happy holiday season for those in need. The Ala Moana Lions Club will additionally be collecting used eye glasses and hearing aids for repair and redistribution.

Entry into the fair is free and open to all ages. The regular, event parking rate of $8 per vehicle will be in effect for parking within the Blaisdell. We hope to see you there!
