City's Rental and Utility Relief Program to temporarily reopen for in-person application events in December
HONOLULU -- The City and County of Honolulu's Rental and Utility Relief Program (RURP) will temporarily reopen for in-person applications on Saturday, December 2, and Saturday, December 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi's Clarence T.C. Ching Campus, 1822 Keʻeaumoku St.
These events are for new applicants struggling with housing costs and require an appointment. Renters can make an appointment by calling (808) 940-5209; or (808) 940-6993; or (808) 940-2838; or (808) 728-3508; or (808) 741-6966. Or emailing RURPhelp@catholiccharitieshawaii.org.
"The Rental and Utility Relief Program has lifted up our neighbors and our economy for more than two years," said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. "It has helped nearly 20,200 families stay safely housed and prevented thousands of unnecessary evictions. We are grateful we can continue helping renters with short-term financial aid."
More in-person events will be announced soon at the RURP webpage: revitalizeoahu.org/renthelp.
New Applicants Only
This temporary reopening is for new applicants only. New applicants can qualify for up to six months of rent and utility help. Renters should apply only once. Duplicate applications will slow down processing.
Income limits and eligibility rules apply. New applicants are encouraged to review eligibility information in the FAQ at revitalizeoahu.org/renthelp.
Documents to Bring
Renters should bring:
• Photo ID card for head of household (driver's license, State ID card, or a passport).
• Signed Social Security card and income documents for household members over 18.
• Proof of financial hardship since March 13, 2020.
• Valid rent agreement.
• Late rent and/or utility bills, or eviction notice.
Applications are funded by $25 million in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds that were approved by the Honolulu City Council on February 22, 2023. The Program has helped more than 20,000 Oʻahu families starting in April 2021.
